Our Staff
We hold the Investors in People award, which recognises the people and teams that make the difference every day in highlighting excellence in the workplace.
Many of our staff have been with us for many years. There is not much that they have not experienced before. They are all very special and highly experienced and undertake continuous mandatory training as directed by CQC. A retired doctor is the founder of St Andrew’s and is still involved as a director.
All staff members have been chosen and trained after rigorous selection and are far more to the family at St Andrew’s than just employees. Our most recent staff members have also been interviewed by some of our residents as well as senior staff members. Staff members become specialists in managing the conditions we encounter, chosen for their desire to care for others and their great personalities. They too, are part of the large family and work as facilitators to our residents enabling them to feel that it is their home and their choices in which they assist.
Our nurses have scores of nursing years experience between them and in addition to General medically trained nurses we have some who also have Mental nurse training and some who have Learning Disability training too. All of them have done some general nurse training and all are trained in medicines management, and management of diabetes, PEG feeding, care and replacement of catheters, use of possum machines and recognition of early changes in residents’ health. One of our nurses and a selected care worker will develop and personalize a very detailed plan for your independence and needs, as well as your care and support, and these plans will be available to all members of staff who may deliver care to you.
Day to day life with us does feel like a large household, with quite a lot of fun and banter amidst the practical skills of support and problem management. In order to work so apparently informally however, there is a highly structured and audited routine based on the care plans, which leaves our residents to get on with living freely the best lives they can attain.
