Scope of Care & Nursing Facilities
Over the last 30 years, we have gained immense experience with most physical disabilities and many complex medical needs. Some degree of rehabilitation and recovery time is suitable for many acquired disabilities and illnesses. We have been used to the patience and perseverance needed to encourage residents back to their fullest abilities and have been a real home to many people with all of the following types of problems:
- Complex cerebral palsy and spina bifida, acquired spasticity of limbs from brain or spinal injury.
- Complex medical needs with Down’s syndrome.
- Complicated disability from hydrocephaly.
- Neurological disease, including Huntington’s chorea, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophies.
- Spinal cord and brain lesions/injury, paralysis/paresis/use of possum machinery and speech synthesizers.
- Complex connective tissue disease, rheumatoid arthritis, SLE, severe scleroderma.
- Younger respiratory diseases,
- Cardiac problems and recuperation after surgery.
- Convalescence and remobilization after major surgery or illness before return or transfer to supported living
- Chronic medical conditions requiring care and nursing support.
Many residents will have concurrent conditions such as diabetes, epilepsy, hormonal imbalance, particularly thyroid or pituitary problems, hypertension, PEG feeding, urostomies, colostomy/ileostomy, catheters and incontinence.
Many residents have come and found a real home with us when parents or family cannot manage to look after them as easily as they did. This has often been a source or revitalization for both since they all find themselves liberated in how they can live their lives.
Although we accept that some residents have psychological problems, neuroses or reduced mental capacity as a result of their conditions, we regret that we cannot accept severely mentally ill or psychotic residents since it would disrupt our first priority in managing complex disabilities in a harmonious family atmosphere.
We have access to local physiotherapy when needed, and speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, wheelchair and equipment specialists, and podiatry, usually delivered here at home. The local doctors’ surgery is just 60 yards up the road.
Motto: Nihil volentibus obstat” (Nothing will stand in the way of those who are in need.)
